Men, Need to Talk?

Hi, I'm David Bateman.

Many people suffer in silence, especially men. we are told that by opening up and speaking about emotional topics or feelings, we are weak or unworthy of attention. Or worse, we don't deserve to be happy. 

I am a firm believer that men need a safe space to communicate about their issues, have a perspective that can relate to their needs and a safe space to vent about whatever they need to. Often we are told that hiding emotion is "what men do". By exploring these emotions you can unlock ways to lower guilt, shame and feel better.

Relationships, past trauma and addiction are all areas where we can feel intense shame and guilt throughout our lives. It is possible to free yourself of the burdens of life with talk therapy.

I have spent over twenty years coaching individuals one on one towards achievements in health. After COVID-19, I realized that there is a large portion of the population that needs support focused on mental health and improving their well-being. 

What do people truly want? Results. My application has been honed over decades to not only provide a platform where you will be heard, but also receive the tools you need to move forward with whatever assistance you require. Every session results in action.

As a licensed mental health counselor, I've developed/designed a unique program that combines both talk therapy and somatic methods using various approaches based on the unique needs and priorities of clients.

It is your body and your mind, now you have a choice as to how you want to approach your mental health to help yourself become a better you. Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is one type of counseling in which a trained professional helps a single person work through personal issues they have been facing. It is an effective treatment for a variety of emotional difficulties and mental illnesses. 

Individual therapy is useful for many types of situations that cause stress, anger, grief or conflict. In a comfortable, private setting, an individual and a therapist will explore many different important issues, including (but not limited to):

  • Expression of thoughts and emotions

  • Behavior patterns

  • Problem solving

  • Conflict resolution

  • Strengths and weaknesses

Individual therapy may be short-term (focusing on immediate issues) or long-term (delving into more complex problems). The number of sessions and the frequency of appointments depends on the individual’s situation and the recommendations of the therapist.

Couples Therapy

Perhaps your feeling unhappy, or downright miserable in your relationship. Maybe you feel your relationship has just lost its lustre. Or perhaps you’re feeling generally okay about the stability of your marriage but there is an issue or pattern that you are struggling to overcome. Couples counselling can help you to navigate through these situations and make your relationship stronger and more satisfying. 

Couples therapy is a form of psychotherapy applicable to both married partners and non-married partners of any gender or sexual orientation. The duration of therapy depends on the issues being addressed.

These could include: sex, intimacy, communication issues, parenting, stress, anger or infidelity. If you are willing to address these relationship problems, then you are ready for couples therapy. 

Life Coaching

I have dealt with hundreds of clients who are attempting to make changes to their lives and need guidance towards how to appropriately adjust and strategize.  I also deal with clients who have lifelong physical limitations, either from injury or birth. There is an arsenal of ways to approach change, taking all circumstances into consideration. 

I have dealt over the years with bodies of every shape, age and level of ability from the completely detrained person with special conditions who require extra care, to Ironman athletes and Eco Challenge competitors. Having a trained coach on your side can also help with acceptance and motivation to move forward in life. 

Working with me gets you practical solutions and a coach who will motivate you towards a better place in life, gaining happiness and satisfaction.
